VOWELS

In this topic I want to share a Little about an important and primary topic in kindergarten classes: VOWELS.

Start with words that use the short "a" sound, like "cat," "mat" and "bad”, “bat”, “car”. See if the children can think of more words that use this same sound. Or if they can mention words that begin with “a” in matter of example: “African”, “ Astronaut”, “ Apple”, “ Adam”.
Explain to them why the words sound the same and isolate the sound.
Remember if you are teaching vowels you have to do the same with every vowel sound.
Here are more examples using the other vowels:
“E” : RED, BED, LEG, TEN,HEN,WEB,PEN,NEST.

HERE IS ONE EXAMPLE OF A WORKSHEET ON INTERNET THAT WE CAN USE IN THE CLASS:

I: "PIG","BIG","SIT" "INDIAN"

O= DOG, COW, CORN, BOX.

FINALLY , THE LETTER U YOU CAN DO THE SAME , INTERNET HAS MANY SITES WHERE YOU CAN FIND VERY GOOD WORKSHEET.

IS Necesary to establish the connection between the sound and the printed letters. It is often helpful to create a visual connection between the letter and its sound by drawing the letter as a picture.
In this case you can use FLASHCARDS , this are very helpful for the students learning.
Use objects or pictures that begin with short vowel sounds. See if the children can group them according to their initial sound
Read out loud and see if children can recognize the short vowel sounds in the words.
This step is for older students because they are able to recognize it.
Use flashcards, games, songs and worksheets to help students learn the vowel sounds.

Remeber teaching vowels is very fun if you give fun to the topic and is essential for the first reading of the children.
